Cisco Systems Inc. said earlier this week it will acquire privately held security company Lancope Inc. for  $452.5 million in order to boost its cybersecurity threat defense capabilities.

A provider of network behavior analytics, threat visibility and security intelligence, Lancope has been part of Cisco’s security solution through a commercial relationship.

“Together, Cisco and Lancope will advance Cisco’s Security Everywhere strategy of providing advanced threat protection across the full attack continuum – before, during and after and attack,” Rob Salvagno, vice president, Cisco Corporate Development said in a Cisco blog.

The Alpharetta, Georgia-based Lancope team will join Cisco’s Security Business Group organization led by David Goeckeler, senior vice president and general manager.  The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016.

Also this week, Denver-Colorado Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) InteliSecure announced that it would acquire, for an undisclosed sum, UK-based Pentura Ltd., establishing what it said would be a “managed security and professional services powerhouse across North America and Europe.”

The acquisition follows an $8 million series B round by InteliSecure led by NC-based Frontier Capital.  To date, Intelisecure has raised $22 million of equity financing.

“Our acquisition is a win-win for our customers in North America and Europe, as well as for future enterprise customers who recognize the most effective stopgap measure to combat today’s escalating cybersecurity threats is through critical asset protection,” said Rob Eggebrecht, President and CEO of InteliSecure.
